Learning to stick to a consistent workout routine is not something that comes easily to everyone. If losing weight and keeping it off was easy, the world would have a lot more supermodels and Gisele would be banking a whole lot less each year. On the other hand, many people find that reaching their initial fitness goals with a regular fitness routine works well, but if they start to slack off, they quickly put the weight back on. That’s why keeping up with your workouts is so important. If you fall off the wagon, you’ll never maintain the fit body of your dreams.

4 Ways to Stick to a Consistent Workout Routine

1) Let’s Make it a Date!

Sometimes working out solo can be great but nothing adds to a workout like making ugly sweaty faces with a friend. If you need a bit of motivation to show up to the gym, invite a friend along to help keep yourself accountable. When you make a commitment to get your workout on with a friend, you’re less likely to skip out and can quickly get back on track.

2) Pencil It In!

If you didn’t remind yourself to go to the dentist every six months, would you know when it was time for a cleaning? Using a planner or email reminders is a great way to keep track of your workouts each week. Giving yourself a vague goal of working out 2 or 3 times a week just isn’t enough if you’re trying to get back into the swing of things. Instead of playing it by ear, take the time to actually schedule your gym time. Plan ahead and add your workouts to your digital and paper planners. With plenty of reminders, you’ll never overbook yourself and end up skipping out on time that should be spent in the gym.

3) Loosen Up and Have Fun!

Dreading the idea of spending time at the gym sweating your booty off on the treadmill? Mix things up by signing up for a fun and interactive group class instead. Group classes are great motivators and can be a ton of fun. From dancing to yoga and everything in between, group classes are full of great music, experienced instructors and other fitness buffs that will help you make it through each one of your challenging workouts.

4) Uhm, a Little Help Here?

Desperate times can sometimes call for professional help to whip your booty back into shape. If you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing at the gym or need someone to help you create and stick to your consistent workout routine, a trainer can lead you in the right direction. Aside from setting you on the path to a leaner body, your fitness instructor can also help keep you accountable and make sure you’re showing up for your workouts each week. Win-win!
