You Know Nothing About a Boxing Workout, Jon Snow

By July 28, 2016 No Comments

There are two ways to fight like a Stark. On the one hand, you can hide behind the best equipment and fancy machines that will make every punch powerful without any thanks to your personal strength. On the contrary, you can fight with no regard for death, using whatever tools you can find and rely on your own pure spirit and strength to make it through the battle. Sure, who wouldn’t want to be Iron Man, but the real warrior is Jon Snow. Think you know what it takes to break through the battle lines and possess true power? Unless you know the secrets behind the best boxing workout, then you know nothing.

The Secret Behind The Best Boxing Workout

If you want the strength of the King of the North (spoiler?), then you need to put some planning and creativity into your workout routine. Boxing is like any other type of sport. If you want to be the best you can be, then you need to practice—a lot. But along with that practice comes prep, and sometimes prep doesn’t happen in a boxing ring, and may not even involve boxing gloves. Proper preparation means improving your stamina from regular conditioning, focusing on muscle groups, cardiovascular exercises, and strength training. Sure, a boxer needs time to learn how to dominate the ring, but there is a lot of behind the scenes work that goes into prepping those muscles for the big fight.

This means that if you want to amp up your boxing game, you need to start thinking about the ways you can diversify your workout routine. This means bringing in workouts like:

  • Jumping rope
  • Running
  • Stretching and yoga
  • Weight lifting and muscle training

What makes a boxer great? Is it their quick foot movement, their powerful punch, or maybe it’s their ability to keep mixing it up in the midst of a strong spar. No two boxing matches are ever the same. To keep up with your own sport, you need to bring this heightened level of variety to your workout.

Cardiovascular exercises help build stamina and speed. This includes running, swimming, and jumping rope, as this helps improve foot movement as well. However, just being fast isn’t going to help you land that winning punch. Weight training exercises that improve leg, core and arm strength are just as important. This includes activities like squats, leg extensions, leg curls, military press, side raises and front raises, just to name a few. Building your muscle strength will help you bring more power into the ring. Combine these exercises with regular reps with the heavy weight bag and speed bag, as well as regular sparring matches, and you will put yourself in the best position to dominate the ring.

Whether you are an actual Avenger, or just hoping to avenge the death of loved ones by your enemies across Westeros, you can’t win a fight without proper prep. Mix up your boxing workout to bring the most to your boxing game.
